My Weight Loss Journey
For years, I’ve carried around more weight than what BMI would call “normal.” That’s been my life for as long as I could remember. And if I didn’t necessarily look overweight about a decade ago, but BMI would definitely tell me otherwise.
In the past 10 years, my body has gone through many changes. Surgeries, hormonal changes, five pregnancies, two births, and a broken ankle, which required me to learn how to walk again. Plus, quarantine and COVID-19 – who knows how much weight this added in the past year…
As a mom of two boys, I know very well that the body changes throughout pregnancy. I was prepared for the changes and between pregnancies, I actually lost 30 pounds. But with fertility treatments and probably a mild depression due to continuous miscarriages in 2018, I gained most of it back. To be quite honest, I just didn’t care.
But now, with two healthy boys and knowing that I’m done with being pregnant, it’s time to focus on me and my health. That’s why I started this ‘weight loss with yoga’ project. Not only do I want to lose weight, but I also want to continue my journey with health and wellness. During this journey, I’m tracking calories and shedding weight, but I’m also working on my body by going through the certification program to get my yoga instructor certification.

It’s really just a matter of getting into the right mindset and being motivated. Of course, you are going to have off days, where you don’t stay within your set calorie intake. However, it’s about that mindset to get you back on track, even if you have a bad day. One bad day doesn’t mean you’re a failure. It just means you are human.
So, how did I get started? I had failed enough times to know that I needed to give it my best shot and I planned for a few weeks before I actually started.
Then, I just started counting my caloric intake.
No, I do not exercise. I realize a lot of people will say that’s a mistake. But I’ll be completely honest here. I have a busy career, I have two kids under four, and we are in a pandemic as I’m writing this. Getting time alone, let alone time for exercise, is hard to come by. And that’s why I’m focusing on what I can do – counting calories and tracking what I’m eating.
I eat a lot of different things. I track most things on Instagram and my blog. I track things almost instantly on my Instagram Stories and you can find more details on my highlights.
But in short, I eat a little bit of everything. Portion control and tracking is the key to success.
I track my meals using MyFitnessPal. It’s a free app and you can download it from the app store.
I’m writing this in December 2020, about three weeks prior to starting this weight loss journey. And I’ll happily admit that I know absolutely nothing. I’ve taken a few yoga classes before but I’ve never taken the time to actually learn about the practice. That’s what this blog is all about – learning about yoga and getting certified – and losing weight in the process.
I decided to do a blog for a few different reasons. Firstly, I’ve written books about blogging. Secondly, I work in digital marketing and work with blogs, SEO and the digital landscape every day. And thirdly, I’d like to document everything so people can find it and get inspired by it on their own time.
Right now, I do not coach people through weight loss. But I am working on options to assist those who wish to have me as an accountability partner. It really helps!
